It’s just that pictures of RealRailways with bits of Maxis Rail sticking out of them, or pictures of file architecture schemes, aren’t very exciting for general public to look at–heck, they’re not exciting for us to look at, either.)Īll the details on NAM 37 RC can be found here, including the download link. (And yes, we’ve actually been developing this entire time. We’ve gone ahead and issued a public Release Candidate build (NAM 37 RC), which represents the very-close-to-final state of this new version of the mod, allowing the community a chance to see what we’ve been up to in all this time. Next click 'Set launch options.' In this field you can simply insert -CustomResolution:enabled -r1366x768x32, c hanging the '1366x768x32' part to the specifics of your screen (see above). At long last, the marathon development cycle for NAM 37, at just over 2 1/2 years, is coming to a close. Right click SimCity 4 in your steam library and choose properties. Your target should look something like: 'C:Program Files (x86)MaxisSimCity 4 DeluxeAppsSimCity 4.exe' -CustomResolution:enabled -r1366x768x32, the path changing according to where you have installed SimCity 4.SteamIf you're running SimCity 4 from Steam, you can do the following to set a custom resolution. In the properties window, add this to the end of the 'target' text box, for example: -CustomResolution:enabled -r1366x768x32, changing the '1366x768x32' part to the specifics of your screen (e.g. To do this, right click the shortcut and select Properties. If your screen's resolution isn't listed in the window, read the guide on setting a custom resolution below.Custom resolution1366x768 custom resolution (click to view full size)SimCity 4 supports the use of custom resolutions. Once you choose a resolution, press 'Accept' and restart the game for the changes to go into effect. The window will show, allowing you to select a resolution to use. GOG would be my recommendation for picking up the Windows version (though wait for a $4.99 sale).Ĭontents Setting resolutionTo set your preferred resolution, navigate to the in-game menu and select 'Graphic Options' in the menu that appears. The game actually works astonishingly well with WINE and its variants, from every report I've heard. Aspyr's yet to officially comment on the matter to my knowledge, though they've already discontinued an iOS game in their portfolio due to iOS 11 dropping 32-bit support. The safest bet may actually be to get the Windows version and run it on macOS via WINE/Wineskin (similar to what the Linux users do) or a dual-boot. The App Store change won't affect the Steam version, but the macOS changes may. Also, be forewarned it's a 32-bit app like the Windows version, and unless Aspyr decides to update it (unlikely), it'll likely be getting delisted from the App Store come June, and may not run once the next macOS after High Sierra/10.13 is released. If you want to try a newer city sim, then watch or read some reviews on the SC2013 and Cities:Skylines, and pick one of those. Since you’ve played sc4 before I’d say just stick with that. Both have entirely different art styles which are subjective so that depends on your preference. If you like traffic simulation, sc4 is better. To this day, SimCity 4 has the largest fanbase out of all the SimCity titles, with devoted players turning out mods and fixes that Maxis no longer creates. Later on, SimCity 4: Deluxe Edition was released, but it was simply the main game and the Rush Hour expansion bundled into one. The Network Addon Mod, or NAM, is a modification for SimCity 4 Deluxe (or SimCity 4 with the Rush Hour Expansion pack), which adds a myriad of new transport network items, ranging from ground light rail, to fractional-angle roads, to roundabouts, and much more. If you want good graphics, then the new one is fully 3D. You can get the Mac version of simcity 4 deluxe for less than the new simcity, so unless you really want to try the new one, I’d just rebuy sc4.In terms of which is better? Depends what do you like in your city builders really. Simcity 4 Deluxe Edition Mods Rating: 3,7/5 7884 votes
